ASAHAN – Thousands of people from various circles in Asahan Regency flocked to the main streets of Kisaran to participate in a “Jalan Santai” (Fun Walk) held in celebration of the 40th Anniversary (Dies Natalis) of Universitas Asahan (UNA) on Saturday (May 9, 2026).
The event was even more festive with the presence of several prominent regional figures, including local government officials and the academic community of UNA, who joined the crowd in a spirit of togetherness. The fun walk, which started and finished at the UNA campus area, was not just a sporting event but also a momentum to strengthen the synergy between the university and the local community.
In his remarks, the Chairman of the UNA Foundation expressed his gratitude for the high enthusiasm shown by the residents. He stated that for four decades, UNA has been committed to being a center of excellence in education for the people of Asahan and its surrounding areas. This 40th anniversary marks a significant milestone for the university to continue innovating and contributing to regional development.
Participants of the fun walk had the opportunity to win various attractive door prizes, ranging from electronic goods to other main prizes provided by the committee and sponsors. The joy was palpable on the faces of the participants as they walked through the designated route while enjoying the morning atmosphere in Kisaran.
This event is part of a series of activities scheduled to celebrate UNA’s four decades of existence. Beyond the fun walk, the committee has also prepared several other social and academic programs aimed at involving more stakeholders and the general public in the anniversary celebrations.
The celebration concluded with the distribution of prizes and a musical performance, leaving a deep impression of the harmonious relationship between the academic world and the social environment in Asahan Regency.
The 40th Anniversary (Dies Natalis) of Universitas Asahan (UNA) represents the maturity of the oldest higher education institution in Asahan Regency. The fun walk was selected as the flagship event due to its inclusive nature, involving thousands of participants from diverse backgrounds, including students, alumni, and civilians. This highlights UNA’s position not merely as an “ivory tower” of academics, but as an integral part of the social ecosystem in North Sumatra.
This large-scale event creates a dual impact. Socially, it significantly boosts UNA’s brand awareness among prospective students and strengthens emotional ties between the campus and local residents. Economically, the presence of thousands of participants in the heart of Kisaran provides a short-term stimulus for MSMEs and local vendors along the route, increasing the circulation of money within the local real sector.
To maintain this positive momentum, UNA is encouraged to continue digitalizing its educational services and conducting research that is applicable to regional needs. A sustainable solution to preserve this synergy is to implement consistent community service programs. This ensures that celebrations like the Dies Natalis are not just annual ceremonies, but serve as a starting point for long-term collaboration in developing superior human resources for the future of Asahan.
