KARO, North Sumatra – Kodim 0205/Tanah Karo, in collaboration with Yonif TP 904/GM, has successfully completed the construction of a concrete bridge in Bukit Makmur Village, Mardingding District, Karo Regency. The new bridge is expected to improve connectivity between Bukit Makmur and Lau Mandin villages while supporting daily community activities.
The bridge, measuring six meters in length and four meters in width, has been completed in full and is now ready for public use. The infrastructure is expected to provide safer and more reliable transportation access for local residents while facilitating the movement of agricultural products and other essential goods.
According to Colonel Inf. Sandy, Head of Information for Kodam I/Bukit Barisan, the project reflects the Indonesian Army’s commitment to accelerating infrastructure development in rural areas. He stated that the initiative aligns with President Prabowo Subianto’s vision of ensuring equitable development across Indonesia, including remote regions, as part of broader efforts to strengthen regional resilience and improve public welfare.
Construction of the bridge was carried out through close cooperation between personnel from Kodim 0205/Tanah Karo, Yonif TP 904/GM, and local residents. The collaborative effort highlights the long-standing partnership between the Indonesian military and communities in delivering infrastructure projects that directly benefit the public.
Military officials expressed optimism that the new bridge will significantly improve transportation, simplify the distribution of agricultural and plantation products, and support economic activities, education, and social services throughout the area. The project is also expected to strengthen regional connectivity and contribute to sustainable rural development.
Mardingding District is one of the agricultural centers in Karo Regency, where many residents depend on farming and plantation activities as their primary source of income. Reliable transportation infrastructure plays a crucial role in reducing travel time and logistics costs for farmers transporting produce to nearby markets.
Infrastructure projects in rural North Sumatra have increasingly focused on improving accessibility between villages, allowing residents easier access to schools, healthcare facilities, and government services. Improved road and bridge networks are also expected to encourage local economic growth by facilitating trade and investment.
The completion of the Bukit Makmur bridge demonstrates how collaborative development involving the military, local government, and surrounding communities can accelerate public infrastructure projects while promoting the spirit of mutual cooperation, a longstanding value within Indonesian society.
